Year 11 Subject Selection Information

Year 11 Subject Selection Information

The Dilworth Diploma will replace NCEA Level 1 for most courses in 2025. English is the only course to offer NCEA Level 1 Credits.

All year 11 students will work towards achieving the Dilworth Diploma by gaining points through assessments in 6 courses.

Choosing your subjects;

3 of the courses are compulsory. English, Mathematics and Science, the other 3 are chosen by the student.

Students who have not already achieved the NCEA Co requisites in Literacy and Numeracy will be offered further opportunities to achieve these.

In addition to the 6 full courses, all students in Year 11 will study shorter courses in Christian Education, Health, Fitness and Transition. These courses are not formally assessed.

Students wishing to study a course at a higher level should discuss this with the GATE Dean (Mr Stent).

  • Final acceptance into your choice of subjects may be dependent on your results in the Year 10 End of Year Examinations held in Term 4.

  • Students may need to review their choices after they have sat the four core examinations - English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies and may need to discuss their course with the Year 11 Dean in November.

  • Subjects labelled* lead to NCEA Unit Standards subjects in Years 12/13. While these standards count towards NCEA Certificates, they are not approved subjects for University Entrance (UE).

  • Accelerated students will be decided on a case-by-case basis..
