Year 13 Subject Selection Information
Year 13 Subject Selection Information
All full courses count towards NCEA Level 3.
All year 13 students will work towards achieving NCEA Level 3 by gaining credits in 5 courses.
The 5 courses are chosen by the student.
In addition to the 5 full courses, all students in Year 13 will study shorter courses in Christian Education, Financial Literacy and personal study periods. These courses are not formally assessed.
Students wishing to study a course at a higher Level (Scholarships) should discuss this with the GATE Dean (Mr Stent).
In Year 13, we offer a Pathways course for students who are planning to enter full-time work, or looking to pursue vocational studies or training beyond high school.

Important Notes
- Christian Education (13CED) and Financial Literacy (13FLT) are compulsory for all students in year 13.
Students must work hard each year to achieve the necessary background to successfully progress from one year level to the next.
Final acceptance into your choice of subjects may be dependent on your results in NCEA Level 2.
Students may need to review their choices after they have sat the external examinations.
Subjects labelled with a * are NCEA Unit standards subjects in years 12 and 13.
While these standards count towards NCEA Certificates, they are not approved subjects for University Entrance (UE).
If you wish to take a subject that is not listed under “Subjects I Can Select For 2025”, select “Courses by Faculties” and request an exemption.
