12RST - Religious Studies NCEA Level 2

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Carruthers, Ms J. McInnes.

The main theme that runs through each of the topics in NCEA Level 2 Religious Studies is ‘interactions between society and diverse religions and spirituality’. This involves the study of Christian and other religious teachings and their impact on individuals and New Zealand society. The topics studied in 12RST include the New Zealand housing crisis and the programmes of Christian social organisations making affordable and comfortable housing accessible. We also compare and contrast the beliefs and spiritual practices of Hinduism with those of Christianity. Finally, 12RST explores the theme of ‘good overcoming evil’ in Biblical apocalyptic literature such as Revelation and Daniel, by studying the Biblical text, graphic novels, symbolism, artwork and messages within.

12RST involves wide reading and exposure to a number of ancient and modern texts.

12RST will offer students 18 interal credits. There is no external exam in RST.
