13PED - Physical Education NCEA Level 3
Aims of the Course:
NCEA Physical Education is an exciting course which incorporates both theoretical and practical aspects designed to develop a well-rounded understanding of physical activity and health. Expanding on from NCEA level 2 Physical Education, learners are further encouraged to think critically and problem solve. Practical application of knowledge, skill development, team-work, collaboration and learning to take personal responsibility are key requirements of the course. NCEA Physical Education offers assessment flexibility and allows for various assessment methods including written examinations, practical assessments and presentations.
Topics:
3.1 (4 credits) - Evaluate physical activity experiences and devise strategies for lifelong wellbeing
3.2 (3 credits) - Analyse a physical skill performed by self and others
3.3 (4 credits) - Evaluate the effectiveness of a performance programme
3.4 (4 credits) - Perform a physical activity in an applied setting (x3)
3.5 (4 credits) - Examine a current physical activity event, trend or issue and its impact on NZ society
Other, eg. Field trips, Curriculum Enrichment
Practical assessment involves a fun, exciting and challenging external trip to compete in the famous Tough Guy event. NCEA Physical Education is largely a literacy-based subject, requires a solid foundation associated with written comprehension and helps to prepare learners for university.

Only students engaged in learning and achievement derived from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are eligible to be awarded these subjects as part of the requirement for 14 credits in each of three subjects.
