12PED - Physical Education NCEA Level 2
Aims of the Course:
NCEA Physical Education is an exciting course which incorporates both theoretical and practical aspects designed to develop a well-rounded understanding of physical activity and health. Through exciting content, learners are encouraged to problem solve and think critically. Practical application of knowledge, skill development, team-work, collaboration and learning to take personal responsibility are key requirements of the course.
NCEA Physical Education offers assessment flexibility and allows for various assessment methods including written examinations, practical assessments and presentations. This flexibility accommodates different learning styles and allows students to showcase their strengths in various ways.
Topics:
2.3 (4 credits) - The application of biophysical principles to training for physical activity
2.4 (4 credits) - Perform a physical activity in an applied setting (x3)
2.5 (4 credits) - Examine the significance of a sporting event, physical activity or festival
2.7 (3 credits) - Analyse the application of risk management strategies to a challenging outdoor activity
2.9 (3 credits) - Examine the implementation and outcome(s) of a physical activity event or opportunity
Other:
Course content is supplemented via various external trips such as rock climbing, adventure high ropes and mountain biking. NCEA Physical Education is largely a literacy-based subject and requires a solid foundation associated with written comprehension.
